I just did one of the world's dirtiest jobs. Have you ever tried to...

I think one of the world's dirtiest jobs is cleaning hair out of a bathtub. I had the chance to experience this job today. Now, it's one thing if it's your own hair, but the hair or hairs of someone else tends to creep me out. With a little help from EXTRA strength Drano, and a plunger, I was able to dislodge the clog. Unfortunately, most of the hair re-surfaced into the tub during the process (ugghh). I had to LOOK at it.

What I found interesting is that Drano advertises that most clogs can be cleared in just 7 minutes. Impressive! But it also states, "For the most difficult clogs, allow up to 15 minutes." Hence, I waited the full 15 minutes before even running the bath water. I was expecting the worst!

As it relates to our spiritual life, I think the same might be said about us. All of us have those clogs that form in our relationship from time to time with our heavenly Father. The Bible states that all have sinned and fall well short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). And of course, the nature of sin takes well over 15 minutes to remove. Sure, God will forgive us immediately upon asking, but this is not to say that the consequences of our sin won't have a residual affect on us. Just like hair in the sink, our sins can leave some strong debri. And to make matters worse, like any clog, it causes good things to be backed up. One sin can easily stop or prevent us from receiving many good things from God. And before you know it, instead of experiencing God's very presence, we are standing neck high in sin.

Today might be a good day to do a little "clog research." How is the life living water flowing through you? Are there areas in your life that are backed up or clogged? The good news is that every clog is capable of being reopened. The key, however, is to be in a posture of receiving God's ultimate Drano by accepting the discipline and love of the Father. Sure, your pipes might heat up a bit during the cleansing. But the outcome will bring many favorable blessings.
