Started out my New Year by running in a 5K race in Minnesota. Can you spell...cold?

I think that I have started a New Year's tradition. There's nothing like waking up in Minnesota on the first day of January with a pair of running shoes and a "parka." But let me just tell you, I wasn't the only "nut" looking for attention. Roughly 100 men and women competed in a 5K race in White Bear Lake, MN. And the weather? Clear and - 14 below. I was joined by two close friends from WCC who had never competed in a race before. How "cool" is that? What a way to break yourself in.

Sometimes in life we face some serious obstacles on our path. In our case, the New Year presented freezing temps to our frozen path. And yet, like the great Barry Manilow song goes, "Looks Like We Made It." And when we finished, we were all greeted to a warm reception by our spouses.

What's next? Well, at the end of January, a large number of people from our church (WCC) will be taking the "Polar Plunge" for Special Olympics. Yes, we are diving into a frozen lake.

Makes you want to move to Minnesota, yes?

Happy New year - and keep running the race!
