This man was the father of five sons and a daughter. All six of his kids are walking with God. Several of his sons shared at the funeral that dad broke away from a generation of unbelievers and changed the entire trojectory of his family over night. He was not famous. He had a quiet and gentle spirit. He never had much money. The last ten years of his life he could neither see nor hear. And yet, he spoke Scripture to his kids through memory.
I was reminded of Ecclesiastes which reads:
Better to attend a funeral than eat dessert at a wild party, for we can all learn something about our life by viewing the dead. (Eccl. 7:2).
I learned a lot that day. Life took on a new meaning for me as I reflected on the love of a father for his children and the legacy he left behind...and certainly ahead.
