Does Jesus know everything? My first thought is, "Of course he does." But after further review...

I'm the type of person who believes that every word of Jesus can be banked on. Call me simple minded, but when Jesus states a fact, put a period behind it. Unfortunately, there are those moments in the gospels in which the words of Jesus confuse me greatly. For example, it's hard for me to imagine Jesus mumbling the words, "I don't know." That concerns me a bit. This is especially true when it relates to our final days on earth and how this world will be changed in the twinkling of an eye. And yet, this is exactly what Jesus proclaims - "I don't know."

Take a look:

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (Matthew 24:36).

Okay. I can go for people not knowing. I'm even willing to believe that the chain of communication may not reach the angels, although strange. But there is no way that I can believe that the Son of God doesn't even know. That's just plain bizarre to me.

Now, this is the place in most of my blogs in which I would try to shed light or to explain this mystery (how can Jesus not know). But in all honesty, I think it is better to allow the mystery of his words to play itself out. I'm sure it might have something to do with "Jesus being fully human," and how he also "emptied himself" as he came to earth as a baby. But what I think makes these particular words of Jesus even more impactful is that they are truly bizarre, and - we simply must trust him.

What are your thoughts? Does Jesus not knowing something cause you to think more or less of him? Do his words trouble you or confuse you?

In a twinkling of an eye - it will all be revealed.
