As a kid growing up I didn't know the person, but I did know the story - "the rest of the story." Paul Harvey took a common story and gave us a story inside the story. That was his trademark. And of course, he would end each story by saying, "Good day."
As I reflected on Paul Harvey's life and legacy, I couldn't help but think that this might be a little like the Christmas story. Namely, there is a story within the story.
Hebrews 1:1-2 says that, "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us through His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe."
In the Old Testament we got glimpses of what was to come. God did this through many different people and in various ways. Indeed, God spoke and the story went out. And from time to time, people listened. Unfortunately, through the years the message seemed to get lost in translation. However, according to this verse, in these last days God tells the story again, but this time through His Son's birth, life, and resurrection. This becomes "the rest of the story."
Christmas is the rest of the story. Christmas is about God coming to earth as a baby, living a sinless life, paying the randsom for our sins, teaching us the truth of salvation, and coming back through the resurrection. If Paul Harvey would have been present in Palestine during the time of Christ's birth, no doubt we would have heard him say, "And now you know the rest of the story." GOOD DAY - and GOOD NEWS!
