Not sure where this picture originates, but it is pretty unsettling. But this picture does raise an interesting question: Is it helpful to look back on your past when it brings back unsettling feelings?
In my many years of ministry I have heard more than a fair share of train wreck stories. And in many cases, these stories have left a strong and lasting impression upon the lives of those who truly want to move forward - but really struggle to do so. It's as if the past has become their trademark or signature. There is no doubt that these stories have the potential to change us for the better, but to be realistic, the reverse is often the case. Sometimes these stories, if replayed over and over again, have the potential to stunt our future growth.
Someone once said, "When the memories of our past replace the dreams of our future, the end is near."
So, what do you think? Do you find yourself looking back more than forward? What is God calling you do to today as it pertains to your own personal growth and transformation? Maybe the past and future can build a bridge to God size dreams for your life.
